If a suitable wetland is identified, Comite Resources, Inc. can conduct a feasibility study, ecological baseline study, design the distribution system, submit all required permit applications (LPDES, Coastal Use Permit, Section 404 permit, applicable levee board permits, Water Quality Certification), and conduct post-project monitoring for the life of the project.
Scientists with Comite Resources, Inc., along with Dr. Sarah Mack of Tierra Resources, LLC, developed the world's first methodology for quantifying carbon sequestration in wetlands. Carbon sequestration can provide revenue that can help offset costs for coastal restoration in Louisiana or provide money for public and private entities.
WETLAND CREATION AND ENHANCEMENT
Comite Resources, Inc. is currently involved in several projects to enhance degraded baldcypress wetlands in coastal Louisiana, including wetland assimilation, seedling planting, and innovative use of freshwater resources. We are also dispersing mangrove propagules and planting mangrove seedlings to enhance mangrove wetlands and expand the area of black mangroves in coastal Louisiana.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Scientists with Comite Resources, Inc. are continually involved in active field research to enhance wetland sustainability and to improve remediation of different types of waste waters. We are currently quantifying nitrous oxide and methane production in wetlands and evaluating methods for enhancing growth of baldcypress and mangrove seedlings in wetlands.
